If you have a horse that is losing weight, has trouble maintaining weight or is just failing to thrive, consider this…..
How well your horse digests its food depends heavily on their ability to chew normally. Horses have highly efficient wear patterns on their cheek teeth which enables them to break down fibrous material into very small pieces. Even a seemingly benign dental problem that disrupt this process can lead to very serious metabolic problems.
If you are finding prominent long fibres in your horse’s manure, this could be an indication of dysmastication (the inability to chew food effectively). Your horse should been seen by a vet dentist for further evaluation.
